Gertrud Allen

Gertrud A. Allen, 86, a long-time resident of Batavia passed away Sunday, March 20, 2022, at Alden of Waterford.  She was born in Germany September 25, 1935, the daughter of Emanuel and Erna (nee Brautigam) Oppitz.  She was united in marriage to Donald E. Allen April 22, 1958, in Germany. 

Gertrud will be remembered as the most perfect loving grandmother.  She loved being part of her children and her grandchildren’s life.  She enjoyed telling stories of her 22 years growing up in Germany and how she fell in love with Donald, the love of her life.  Gertrud worked at Louise White Elementary School as a lunch lady and loved to be an additional motherly role model to all the students.  She loved to take long walks, chocolate, especially German chocolate, Coke Cola, and roses, but most of all she loved her family.  To Gertrud, family was everything, however her love went far beyond family.  She touched many hearts both near and far, she always made her way back home to Germany whenever she could.  

She is survived by her three children, Richard Allen, Tammy (Michael Roop) Allen, and Jacqueline (Mark) Harbison; eight grandchildren, Danielle (Tommy), Richard, Amber, Nicholas, Chantelle (Bryan), Jeremy Aubrianna, and Chelsea; five great-grandchildren, Natalie, Nicholas, Neela, Noah, and Caly. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son Billy Allen and her husband Donald Allen. 

Visitation will be held 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday, March 25, 2022, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL. 

A funeral service will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Moss Family Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in East Batavia Cemetery in Batavia, IL.
