James L. Hubbs

James “Jim” L. Hubbs, 87, of St. Charles, Il., passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva, Il. James was born June 20, 1934 in DuQuoin, IL., the son of Elmer and Ruth (nee. Roberts) Hubbs. He was united in marriage to Isabell “Polly” Jane Jenkins. Jim graduated from Anna-Jonesboro High School in Anna, Il. He proudly served the US Navy from 1952-1955 during the Korean War completing two tours of duty, and finishing his service in the Navy Reserves. He worked for Alcoa Corporation with his lifelong childhood friend Lowell Haire for 40 plus years in various management positions. Jim was an active member of the American Legion Post 342, where he served two terms as Post Commander and various other positions. He was also an active member of the St. Charles VFW Post 5036. His greatest honor of his lifetime was the opportunity to participate in the Veteran’s Honor Flight in August of 2016. Jim and his wife enjoyed camping, traveling across the US with friends and family. He is survived by his loving wife, Polly Hubbs; his four children, John (Linda) Hubbs, Janet Carrano, Dale (Laurie) Hubbs and David (Rebecca) Hubbs; his eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Jack, Daniel, Tyler, Kayli, Andrew, Dylan and Dawson; his five great grandchildren, Lillian, Abigail, Johnny, Henry and Owen; a sister, Beverly (Allen) Matz, a sister-in-law, Marcia Hubbs and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Daryl Hubbs; and his brother, Howard Hubbs. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. Third Street, St. Charles, 60175. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 23, 2021, also at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Union Cemetery in St. Charles, Il. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in James’ name may be made to, American Legion Post 342 Scholarship fund, 311 N. 2nd Street, St. Charles, IL. 60174.
