James Richard Nass Jr.
June 5, 1938 - November 24, 2020 James Richard “Jim” Nass, Jr., 82, of Batavia, IL., joined his family in Heaven on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. Jim was born on June 5, 1938 in Aurora, IL., the son of James and Cecile (nee. Jacobs) Nass, Sr.. He was united in marriage to Cecilia Mary Feuerborn on August 22, 1959 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Batavia, IL. Jim met his wife “Sis” at a dance in high school and she became his beloved dancing partner for life. They especially enjoyed dancing to polka music in a German-American Club (DANK). After graduating from Marmion, Jim joined the Carpenters Union, began work as a lather with Heitkotter Inc, worked many years for Louis Galie Lath and Plaster, and later ended his career as a Construction Superintendent for OPUS. Jim took great pride in the acoustical ceiling he built for the Norris Center in St. Charles, IL as well as commercial buildings all over the Midwest. Jim knew every aspect of building construction and generously shared his time and talent to mentor others while building and remodeling his own homes and the houses of many relatives. Jim also enjoyed educating others about his hobby of collecting and restoring hit & miss gasoline engines made by the Challenge factory in Batavia, IL, by demonstrating them at county fairs and engine shows. Family and faith were important to Jim and Sis who were devoted to each other in marriage for over 60 years. In addition to dancing, building homes, and showing engines together, they served their parish together, notably as Infant Baptism Preparation Presenters and Chairpersons for the annual Church Picnic and Barn Sale. They involved family in all that they did and were great role models for their children and grandchildren for what it means to love unconditionally. Jim’s endless patience and quick wit will be missed by many. Jim is survived by cherished family members, his four children, Anne (Robert) Herrmann, James (Kathleen) Nass III, Mary (Douglas) Dickey and Christopher Nass; his twelve grandchildren, Katie, Tim, Ken (Meghan) Herrmann, Rebecca (Willy) Case, James (Lucy) Nass IV, Spencer (Jennifer) Nass, Matthew (Katie) Nass, Daniel Dickey, Michael Dickey, Michelle Nass, Stephen Nass, and Katrina (Nathan) Franks; six great grandchildren; his sister Marge Calmeyn (Jack); his three brothers-in-law and their spouses, Robert (Pat), Richard, and James (Helen) Feuerborn; his sister-in-law, Leanne Feuerborn; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
