Jean Maurice Pouget

Jean Maurice Pouget, MD, 93, of Batavia, IL and formerly of Riverside, IL, passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva, IL.  Jean, known to family and friends by his middle name, “Maurice”, was born in Cap Haitien, Haiti on August 29, 1927 the son of Joseph Georges and Marie-Louise (nee Garcia) Pouget.

Maurice was a worldly man, completing his medical education and training at various hospitals in Buenos Aires, Argentina; New York City; Boston; and Wadsworth, KS.  He ultimately served as the Chief of Cardiology at the West Side VA Hospital in Chicago, IL for 30 years (also affiliated with University of Illinois Hospital; MacNeal Memorial Hospital; and Pres. St. Luke Medical Center). Maurice was a teacher, published author, and leader in his field. He enjoyed taking photos of both his family and the world around him.  

He is survived by his daughter Patricia Przybycien, of Batavia, three grandchildren Amanda Przybycien, Danielle Przybycien and Maximillian (Kayla) Przybycien; and a sister, Edith “Jojo” Duret. 

He is preceded in death by his wife, (Wilhelmina Pouget, nee Agterberg), a brother (Daniel Pouget), and a sister (Fulvie “Fifi” Maniscalco). 

Due to COVID-19 and regulations regarding occupancy, the funeral services will be held privately with just the immediate family in attendance.
