John Nicholas Oster

John Nicholas Oster September 19, 1928 - March 12, 2020

John Nicholas Oster, of St. Charles,IL, joined the Lord peacefully, at the age of 91, on March 12, 2020, after spending his final days surrounded by his loving family.

Born on September 19, 1928 in Chicago, IL to Frank and Catherina(Angele) Oster,

John was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine of 62 years, grandson Joshua, brother Hugo, son-in-law Rick and both parents.  He is survived by six children Linda(Joe) Johnson, Kenneth(Regina)Oster, Peggy(Brad) Carr, Diane Tear, Christine(Jay) Crawford, Steven(Cindy) Oster, 15 grandchildren and sister-in-law, Gretchen.

John, “Johnny O”, grew up on the south side of Chicago where he enjoyed playing the accordion, going swimming and playing baseball.  He attended St. Rita High School where he continued his career in baseball, playing on a semi-professional team, was a member of the honor society, radio and civic duty clubs.  He honored our country by serving in the Army National Guard and graduated from the University of Illinois, where he majored in electrical engineering.  After college, he embarked on a career that spanned more than 50 years where he worked hard providing for his family at various companies (JP Seeburg Corporation, General Electric, Motorola, Andrew Corporation and Elite).  During this time, John was able to obtain a patent for a frequency control transmitter which he says was one of his proudest achievements.

While in high school, John met his future sweetheart, Geraldine,”Gerry” on a blind date at a toboggan slide.  The two enjoyed many activities together including golfing, bowling, square dancing and traveling.  In his retirement, John enjoyed woodworking, bird watching and volunteering for the local Meals on Wheels program.

John loved to watch sports, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed watching Westerns.

He was a faith filled man, devoted to his family, had a warm smile, was genuinely interested in others and could strike up a conversation with anyone.
