John Raymond Gussman

John Raymond Gussman, 74, of North Aurora, IL passed away Monday, August 8, 2022, at his home. He was born November 6, 1947, in Chicago, IL the son of Raymond John and Bernice (nee Danielson) Gussman. He was united in marriage to Maureen Ann Browne May 5, 1985, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

John was an avid competitor beginning early in his life. Among other sports, he loved bowling, golf, and tennis. He was a varsity-level swimming state-qualifier and tennis player when he attended Proviso West High School. During the Vietnam War, John served in the Air Force, stationed at George Air Force
Base in Victorville, CA. He was tasked with inventorying equipment that returned from overseas. Eventually, he returned to the Great Lakes region to raise his family and become an entrepreneur. His business ventures included managing and owning logistics and warehouse companies. His hobbies
included playing blackjack, watching TV, eating out, spending time with Maureen and their cats, movie-
going, and doing Martial Arts.

In 1992 John and his wife Maureen established the Martial Arts Training Service where they taught
generations of students Judo, Jujitsu and Aikido. John was an International Judo coach with USA Judo
and a 5 th degree Black belt in both Judo and jujitsu and Coach of the Fox Valley Judo and Jujitsu club.

 John established the Martial Arts Training Foundation NP shortly before he passed away to
ensure the continued propagation of the Martial Arts he loved so much. Donations can be made

He is survived by his wife Maureen; two sons James (Stella) Gussman and Jason (Christina) Gussman;
three grandchildren, Colin Gussman, Carly Gussman, and Lainey Gussman, and the Martial Arts Training
Service Yudansha.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Jared Gussman.

A memorial service will be held at the Martial Arts Training Service.
