June Rollins

June Rollins August 8, 1930 - September 1, 2022

June Rollins, 92, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2022 at the Holmstad retirement community in Batavia Illinois.  She was born on August 8, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio to James and Frances (Langley) Richmond, and grew up with her younger brother Robert.  June is survived by her children, Sue Rollins, Bryan Rollins and Barry (Noreen) Rollins; and one grandchild Kol Rollins.  She was preceded in death by her husband Howard (“Rollie”) and brother Bob.

June was a graduate of Fenn College in Cleveland Ohio with a BS degree in Home Economics.  She then moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to work at the Public Gas Company, visiting homes to demonstrate cooking with gas appliances to new home owners.  June married Howard Rollins in 1954 in Milwaukee, and later, while raising 3 children she completed Home Economics and Education Master’s Degrees at Northern Illinois University.

June taught Home Economics and Consumer Economics at St. Charles High School for18 years until she retired in 1990.  Many of her Foods’ classes students went on to become chefs and worked in the restaurant and catering industries.  Upon her retirement from teaching, she guided cooks while working at the Butterball Turkey Talk Line and Weber Grill Lines.  For 20 years both seasoned and new cooks calling in from around the world were able to create special holiday dinners with June’s help.

June was an avid reader and for decades traveled the world to out of the way foreign countries.  She traveled to all 7 continents and countless countries, mostly to off-the-beaten-path locales unknown to most travelers.  June also enjoyed volunteering for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Kane County to make a difference in the lives of small children by advocating for them during neglect and guardianship court proceedings.  She was a supporter of many other philanthropic organizations.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 9, 2022. Funeral services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in June’s name may be made to CASA Kane County at Kane County Court House, 1005 3rd Street, Suite 460, Geneva, IL 60134.
