Leonard Gerald Shaffer

Leonard Gerald Shaffer II, 79 years of age, of Geneva, Illinois, passed away September 23, 2022, at home. 

Leonard was born October 5th, 1942 to Leonard G. and Theola Shaffer in Hanna, Wyoming. He was the 4th of 8 children. Leonard graduated high school in Laramie, Wyoming. After high school, he enlisted and served 3 years in the US Navy. He then went on to study at and graduate from the University of Wyoming with a degree in History & Geography education, class of 1970. 

In 1968, while a student at U of Wyoming, he met Marilyn R. Clarke at church and they were wed in December of that year. They were married for 54 years and have 2 children. Leonard loved to garden and to travel. Wanting his family to experience other cultures and countries, he became an employee of the Department of Defense in 1978 and moved his family to Germany where they lived for 10 years. 

Returning from Germany, Leonard and his wife lived in southern Indiana, Maryland and Virginia before retiring to Cheyenne, Wyoming and later to Geneva, Illinois to be nearer to their son and his family. 

Leonard is survived by his wife, Marilyn, their two children, Michelle and husband, Mark, Leonard Gerald III “Jerry” and wife, Carrie, 9 grandchildren, Isaiah & Ragan Shaffer, Elijah & Bekah Shaffer, Taylor Ann Shaffer, Destiny Shaffer, Clarke Moore, Annie Moore & Carsten Moore. He is survived by 2 brothers and a sister, their spouses and many nieces & nephews. He is preceded by his parents, 3 brothers, a sister and 2 grandchildren. 

The celebration of Leonard’s life will be held Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at The Well 33W835 Cherry Ln, Geneva, Illinois.
