Lorraine Elizabeth Piro, 93, of Aurora, Il., and formerly of Rotonda West, FL., passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022, surrounded by her family at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva, Il. She was born on September 22, 1928, in Shaw, Mississippi, the daughter of Salvatore and Concetta (nee. Glorioso) Miceli. She was united in marriage to Pasquale Piro, on June 27, 1948, in Chicago, IL. Lorraine’s family moved from their Mississippi farm when she was a year old to Chicago where she spent most of her life. In high school she joined her father and many of her brothers and sisters to work at National Candy Company, which later became Brachs Candy. Dipping cherries into melted chocolate, there she met her future husband, Pat. They married and raised a family in Chicago before moving to the suburban town of Wheaton. There, Lorraine followed one of her greatest passions and was employed at the local high school as their head cook. If you needed a recipe, Lorraine was sure to have one! After retiring, Lorraine devoted time to family, church, tv viewing of classic movies and The Young and the Restless, and her beloved Chicago Cubs, where she was a Die-Hard member since 1954. Her latter years were spent in sunny southern Florida before she returned once more to Illinois to live out the rest of her life near those she loved most. Now and then she could be found cheating at a hand of 500 rummy or pinochle or playing a swift game of ping pong. Above all, she had a great sense of humor and a deep faith in Christ. Lorraine is survived by her two children, Ronald (Sheryl) Piro and Patricia (Ken) Dixon; her five grandchildren, Mary Jane, Nikki, Josh, Nicholas and Cameron; her five great grandchildren; her sister, Fina Miceli; her brother, Sam Miceli; and loving aunt to many. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Pasquale Piro; her son, Peter Piro, her eleven brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. on Friday, March 4, 2022, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL., 60510.
