Marilyn L. Hjelm, 94, of the Holmstad Retirement Community in Batavia and formerly of Rockford passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021. Marilyn was born January 8, 1927 in Rockford, IL the daughter of Evert and Alice (Larson) Johnson. She was united in marriage to J. Robert Hjelm June 10, 1950 in Rockford, IL. She graduated from Rockford public schools then continued her education at North Park Jr. College in Chicago. She enjoyed reading and served as a library volunteer. Marilyn was an active member of the Broadway Covenant Church, where her husband J. Robert served as Pastor for many years. She enjoyed music and was a member of the Choir at both her church and at the Holmstad. She also contributed her talents and knowledge as a bookkeeper and treasurer for North Park Covenant Church, the Holmstad Resident Association and for National Covenant Women Association. She is survived by two sons, Timothy (Barb) Hjelm and Mark (Julie) Hjelm; a daughter-in-law Beth Hjelm; nine grandchildren, Allison (Adam) Dalton, Andra (Joe) Dalton, Gregory (Lisa Platt) Hjelm, Lisa (Paul) Cousineau, Sarah (Tim) Fuqua, Amanda (Gilbran Suarez) Hjelm, David Hjelm, Matthew (Kelsey) Hjelm and Kathryn Hjelm; and twenty great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband she is preceded in death by her son John Hjelm and a brother Wendell Johnson. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Covenant Living at the Holmstad in Batavia.
