Mary Jane Kelly
January 31, 1951 - June 16, 2020 Mary Jane “Janey” Kelly passed away June 16, 2020 at her home in St. Charles. Janey was born Mary Jane Kahler on January 13, 1951 in Peoria, Illinois, where she graduated from Bergan High School in 1969. She attended Rosary College (now Dominican University), graduating in 1973 with a degree in Technical Theatre. She went on to earn a Master’s degree in Computer Science from DePaul University. In 1981, Janey married Jim Kelly, the brother of her best friend at the time. They moved to St. Charles in 1986, and were blessed with two children, James Joseph (Crissy Subora) and Dr. Colleen Mary Noe (Kevin Noe). Janey worked as a database designer for several companies in the Chicago area and was, for many years, the trusted “go-to” computer expert for countless family and friends. She was known as a generous, funny, and creative spirit and a great supporter of not only her own kids—attending every one of daughter Colleen’s color guard performances—but also supporting Rosary College and youth music in the Fox Valley. She herself loved all kinds of music, especially the Beatles and Queen, and was herself an enthusiastic drum set player and Steel Drum Band member. A passionate dog lover, she was devoted to her Boxers—Clark, Murphy, and Matty as well as non-Boxers -- Cooper, Foxie, and Holly. Janey is survived by her children, Jim "Jimmy" and Colleen, her sisters Kathy Kahler Matthews and Marty Kahler Van Ness (Ronald James Long), nieces Nora Van Ness Babb, Nina Van Ness Gemkow (Alex), and Sarah Matthews Jacobs (Trent), great nieces Wilhelmina Gemkow and Cirenya Jacobs, and great nephews Wolfgang Gemkow and Edwyn Jacobs. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Kelly, parents James and Margaret Kahler, and brother-in-law Tom Matthews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Boxer Rebound, 4915 Ringwood Rd, Ringwood, IL 60072. A visitation will be held Thursday, June 25, 2020 from 10:00—11:00am at Moss Funeral Home, 100 S. 3rd Street in St. Charles, Illinois. Burial service will be private. With the slow re-opening of business due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the visitation will be limited. All visitors entering the funeral home are required to wear a face covering. Due to the number of people who would like to pay their respects, we ask that you make your visitation a brief one in order that all who would like to attend will have a change to do so. Once you have exited the funeral home, we ask you to depart immediately so there are no gatherings outside of our facility. The family appreciates your sincere cooperation during these very challenging and different times. For additional clarification, please contact the funeral home or family directly.
