Michael John Cordes, 65, of Naperville, IL passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at his home. Michael was born December 24, 1954 in Boston, MA the son of Thomas and Lorraine (Garvey) Cordes. Mike was raised in Mauston, WI, and later moved to Batavia, IL. Michael was first united in marriage to Kathleen Wagner, whom he lost to cancer on January 1, 2015. Michael was later united in marriage to Nicole Majka. Mike was an honorably discharged veteran of the US Army. He later earned his Bachelors degree from Aurora University. Mike was an avid sports fan, always loyal to his Chicago Cubs, Blackhawks, Bears, and Bulls. While raising his boys, Mike was a very involved father and attended all of his sons’ sporting events. He was active with Batavia Boy’s baseball and a Scoutmaster in Boy Scouts, Troop 12 out of Batavia, and the Batavia Bulldogs Quarterback Club. Mike was a devoted runner, completing more 20 marathons in the last 20 years. He lived his life to the fullest and loved his family and friends with his whole heart. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend to all he met, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Nicole; two sons Derek (Jennifer) Cordes and Neil Cordes; three grandchildren, Michael, Sophia and Helen Cordes; three siblings Cheryl (Mark) Hovda, Roy Cordes, Rick (Jeanne) Wagner; sister-in-law Nanette (Brian) Walsh; his eleven nieces and nephews Jay, Chad, Carly, Chris, Deanna, Christine, Lindsey, Amanda, Angela, Abby, Teagan, and Emmitt; his mother and father-in-law Stanley and Phyllis Majka, and his father-in-law of 41 years Richard Wagner. He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Lorraine; his first wife Kathleen, and a brother, Frank Cordes. A memorial service will be celebrated by invitation only, Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Avenue Batavia, IL. Visitation will be held by invitation only for two hours prior to the memorial service. Interment will follow the service in East Batavia Cemetery. Due to COVID-19 and the rules surrounding social distancing the visitation and memorial service has occupancy requirements limited to 50 visitors. All visitors entering the church are required to wear a face covering. Due to the number of people who would like to pay their respects, we ask that you make your visitation a brief one. Once you have had your visit, we ask that you depart immediately or take a seat in the funeral home, social distancing while waiting for the memorial service. There should be no gatherings inside or outside of the funeral home facility. The family appreciates your sincere cooperation during these very challenging and different times.
