Nancy Jewison

Nancy Russell Jewison, 86, of Batavia, IL, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Michealsen Health Center in Batavia, IL.   Nancy was born October 7, 1935, in Rushville, IL, the daughter of Ghlee and Eleanor (Robeson) Russell.  She was united in marriage to Charles Benny Jewison on June 30, 1957 in Macomb, IL.

Valedictorian of her high school, Nancy enjoyed cheerleading, playing the clarinet, and singing (she loved to belt out the alto line of any hymn).  She earned bachelor and master degrees from Western Illinois State Teachers College and the National College of Education.  She served from 1957 to 1993 in the Batavia and Wheaton-Warrenville school districts, teaching generations of students in English and home economics classes, and specializing in helping students with learning disabilities.  She was active in Sigma Sigma Sigma, Panhellenic, numerous bridge clubs, and the Society of Mayflower Descendants.  She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Batavia, where she was a frequent liturgist, president of UM Women, and coordinator of many rummage sales and funeral luncheons.  Nancy loved decorating, hosting parties, and anything that involved coordinating integral details. She had a special flair for fashion and was an expert seamstress.  She was a loving inspiration to her children and grandchildren, who have especially fond memories of her Scrabble competitions.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Ben Jewison, her three children, Ghlee (Becky) Jewison, Gregory (Kerry) Jewison and Kathy (David) Cline; four grandchildren, Emily Jewison, Tyler Cline, Adam Cline, and Rebekah Jewison; her brother, Dr. James (Donna) Russell; sisters-and-brothers-in-law Joan and Pierre Croissant, and Bob and Sara Jewison; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Interment will be at Vance Cemetery in Industry, IL.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Holmstad Benevolent Care Fund, 700 W. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia, IL 60510.
