Ralph Eric Carlson Jr.

Ralph Eric Carlson, Jr. age 70, of Batavia passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 26, 2022.  He was born August 13, 1951 in Great Lakes, IL the son of Ralph Eric and Eleanor C. (Martinek) Carlson.  He was united in marriage to Susan Kaericher on August 10, 1974 in Stamford, CT.

Ralph attended Valparaiso University, and served as a police officer in Valparaiso from 1974 to 1984.  He left the police department to work as an Engineer for Western Electric.  While with Western Electric, he earned his master’s degree from Benedictine University.  He retired from Lucent Technologies in 2001.

Outside of work, Ralph was an lifelong Cubs fan, found great joy being active in the Church, volunteering for the Special Olympics, and working as an election judge.  Above all, Ralph treasured his family and the time he spent with them. 

Ralph battled Multiple Sclerosis for more than 40 years, and his perseverance, infectiously positive attitude and calm sense of strength were an inspiration to all he met.

He is survived by his loving wife Susan Carlson; three children, Eric (Carey) Carlson, Jonathan Carlson, and Kristin Carlson; three grandchildren, Zachary, Benjamin and Lucy Carlson; his mother Eleanor Carlson; three sisters, Lynn (Tom Reindl) Carlson, Jean (Steve Favia) Carlson, Karen (Tony) Burlini; a brother, Robert (Annette) Carlson; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Eric Carlson, Sr. and his sister Barbara Carlson. 

Visitation will be held 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Avenue Batavia, IL. 

A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Friday, February 11, 2022, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2300 Main Street Batavia, IL. Interment will follow the Mass in West Batavia Cemetery in Batavia.
