Rosemary Freund

Rosemary (nee Brady) Freund, 94, of St. Charles, IL, passed away November 26, 2022, surrounded by her family.  She was born December 29, 1927, in Highmore, SD the oldest of 6 children of Frank and Dolores (nee Moore) Brady.  Rosemary married William (Bill) Freund in 1952 and they were very happily married for the next 45 years.  

Rosemary graduated from South Dakota State University in 1949 and was an early pioneer for women going to and graduating from college.  She graduated with a degree in Journalism, then later earned a master’s degree in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University in 1977.  

Rosemary spent most of her professional years serving the Catholic church.  She was a second-grade teacher at St. Walter’s in Roselle, IL for many years, was very active in and served as president of the Council of Catholic Women and was a layperson representative in the U.S. Advisory Council of Catholic Bishops.  In retirement, she and her husband, Bill, were hospice volunteers and English and reading tutors at a local Catholic school.

Rosemary had a special interest in writing and published an autobiography describing her life on a farm during the Great Depression.  She also authored columns for the Catholic Diocesan newspaper and her local community.

Rosemary is survived by her five children: Jerry (Mary) Freund, of Roselle, IL, Susan (Bill) McDonnell of San Francisco, CA, Bill (Anne) Freund of Western Springs, IL, Tom (Sharon) Freund of Crystal Lake, IL and Jim (Gwen) Freund of Winfield, IL.  She has three living siblings: Jim Brady, Sharon Baloun and Mike Brady, and fifteen (15) grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. 

Rosemary was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Bill Freund (1997).   

Visitation will be held at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 South Third Street St. Charles, IL, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 A.M. Thursday, December 1, 2022, at St. Walter Catholic Church 130 West Pine Street Roselle, IL.
