Rudolph Francis Dorner

Rudolph “Rudy” Francis Dorner, 82, of St. Charles, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2022, at Greenfields in Geneva.  He was born July 20, 1939, in Chicago, IL the son of Rudolph Frank and Iris Loretta (Crokin) Dorner.  He was united in marriage to Susan Ryden August 26, 1961.    

Rudy graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree of Forestry.  Rudy was passionate of the outdoors and caring for nature.  He was employed for many years at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory as Emergency Coordinator.  He will be remembered by many as the “Bison Boss” he was instrumental in caring for and maintaining the Bison Herd at Fermi Lab. 

He is survived by his two sons, Steve (Ellen) Dorner, of San Diego, CA, and Greg (Jenelle) Dorner, of Bloomington, IN; three grandchildren Evan (Steph) Dorner, Betsy (Jeremiah) Methven-Dorner, and Leif Dorner; three great-grandsons, James Methven, Ian Methven and Ben Dorner; and a sister Pat Stender.    

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Susan.
