Ruth Vivian Swanson

Ruth Vivian Swanson 96, (nee Lundquist), went to be with her Lord on November 15, 2022. She passed away at Michealsen Health Center on the campus of The Holmstad in Batavia, IL. Ruth was born in Chicago, IL on April 19, 1926, to parents Vivian and Gunnard Lundquist. She was united in marriage to Eric H Swanson on January 19, 1946, at Bethany Covenant Church in Chicago.

Ruth was a wonderful and caring wife and mother and enjoyed her time as a homemaker. Ruth worked at First National Bank in Chicago up until the birth of her first child. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Gunnard Jr, her son Carl Eric Swanson and her husband Eric. Ruth is survived by her three children: Terry Alan Swanson, Robert Harold Swanson (Elizabeth), and JoAnn Ruth Sandstrom (Les). Ruth fully enjoyed her five grandchildren: Lisa Beth VanWagner (Joseph), Karin Ruth Sandstrom, Robin Elizabeth Morrison (Bradley), Eric Robert Swanson (Stacey), and Grace Elizabeth Jorgenson (Arek), and five great grandchildren: Charlotte Elisabeth Sandstrom, Easton Thomas VanWagner, Lillian Ruth Swanson, Isla Jo Sandstrom-Wombwell and Emmett Allen VanWagner. 

Ruth had many interests and hobbies. If you stopped by on a snowy day, you would smell cinnamon rolls baking in the oven. Her peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies were famous, and she always made sure that her grandkids had a cup of hot Ovaltine to wash them down before bed. She spent many pleasurable hours knitting, quilting, sewing and was an avid reader. She never met a mystery she couldn’t solve!  Ruth was an active member of the Glen Ellyn Covenant Church and took part in Bible studies, Covenant Women's group and serving committees. She also was part of the group that rolled bandages for missions at North Park. 

Ruth and Eric moved to The Holmstad in June of 1995 and were busy and active campus residents. 

Ruth always had a strong faith, and we celebrate her life in the confidence of her homecoming to be with her Lord and Savior.

Visitation will be held 3:00 P.M. 6:00 P.M. Friday, November 18, 2022, at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Ave. Batavia, IL.  A private graveside funeral will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Glen Ellyn, IL. 

A memorial service will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the Holmstad Retirement Community 700 West Fabyan Parkway Batavia, IL.
