Sandra "Sandy" Ann Smith

Sandra March 1, 1959 - March 2, 2020

Sandra “Sandy” Smith, 61, of St. Charles, IL., passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL.  Sandy was born on March 1, 1959, in Milwaukee, WI., the daughter of Richard and Christine (nee. Koss) Rychwalski.  She was united in marriage to Michael Joseph Smith on July 7, 1984 in Milwaukee, WI.

Sandy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be missed by many. Sandy’s devout Catholic faith was one of the cornerstones of her life; shaping and molding her relationships with her family, friends, and everyday strangers with whom she interacted. She was very active in her church, leading the Mothers at the Well program for many years and helping found the Welcome Ministry, among many other groups she helped influence at St. Patrick parish in St. Charles. Sandy will be remembered for faithfully being herself, her love of singing and dancing, often spontaneously doing so in the kitchen with her sometimes reluctant but always obliging husband and children. Her warrior spirit and “never give up” attitude when faced over and over with her life’s greatest challenge, cancer, remains as a source of inspiration to her family and friends. Most importantly, Sandy was an outstanding mother, grandmother, and wife who devoted her life to preparing her family to get to heaven. Her greatest source of joy was to spend time with her family, even if it meant a sacrifice to her own wants, desires, and career. The absence of Sandy Smith leaves a large, empty space in the hearts of many. She will be sorely missed, although we know she is no longer suffering and if not already in heaven, has cut the line a few spots.

Sandy is survived by her loving husband Michael Smith; her four children, Rick (Emma) Smith, Lisa Smith, David Smith and Kimberly Smith; and three grandchildren, Maddi, Ella and Henry Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, March 6, 2019 at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. Third Street, St. Charles, IL. 60174.  Funeral services will begin with prayers at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Moss-Norris Funeral Home.  Mass will follow at 10:30 A.M. at St. Patrick Catholic Church Downtown, 400 Cedar Street, St. Charles, IL. 60174.  Interment will be held at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Geneva, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sandy’s name to Corbella Clinic, at www.corbellaclinic.org.
