Steven Louis Titus
August 3, 1952 - February 14, 2021 Steven L. “Steve” Titus, 68, was greeted in heaven by his Savior, his beloved daughter Amie, and dear father Frank, on Sunday, February 14th, 2021. The visitation, from 10-12pm will be held on Saturday, February 20th, at the Redeemer Fellowship Church, 1125 Oak St, St. Charles, Illinois, with the funeral service to follow at 12pm. Burial service to follow at 1pm in Prairie Cemetery, Crane Rd., St. Charles. Early supper, for immediate family only, to follow at Redeemer Fellowship Church. Steve is survived by Terri, (nee Meer), his wife of 48 years. They fell in love in high school and Steve encouraged Terri to join the sewing machine and vacuum department at the Sears store where Steve could keep an eye on her. A true visionary at Sears for 45 years, Steve created the dealer store concept from the ground up with his vast knowledge of operations, finance and merchandising. He set the stage for the first Sears outlet stores nationwide. As a lifetime mentor, Steve gave countless people their first opportunity in leadership roles and had his hands in developing many successful executives at Sears and beyond. He was more proud of their accomplishments than his own! For the past 10 years, Steve has been an inspirational presence at Kilwin’s Chocolates, leading all aspects of franchise development. His exuberant personality and high character attracted good people whom he encouraged to a higher standard. Steve even invested in the company by keeping his freezer stocked with 3 gallon tubs of ice cream, much to the delight of friends and family. In keeping with his interest in balanced nutrition, Steve indulged everyone he knew in his homegrown fresh produce and canned soups and salsa and his famous sweet pickles. He was generous in all aspects of his life. Steve coached softball and baseball ever since Amie and Matt were playing. He continued to coach for years afterwards with Wasco Baseball, impacting and mentoring so many young men and women. To know Steve was to quickly become a friend and to feel valued. He was quick to share his love of Jesus, the author and finisher of his faith. He attended Team, a Men’s Bible study at Chapelstreet Church of Geneva for 25 years and attended Redeemer Fellowship Church of St. Charles. Continuing the legacy of his dad, Frank, Steve taught those around him to love God, family and country and to always reach out to those in need. It wouldn’t take much time around Steve to quickly know how much he loved baseball and the NY Yankees with all their stats and titles. He’d tell of his own injuries he’d overcome to keep him at bat on his team, the Rookies. Steve was always pretty sure his knees had one more season of softball… Steve was born August 3, 1952 in Hannibal, Missouri. He is survived by his wife Terri (nee Meer), his son, Matt, (Sarah) of Prague, Czech Republic, his daughter, Melissa (Jeff) Tsai of Austin, TX, his son, Nick (Nicky) Kressman, of Shakopee, MN, his mother, Gerry Titus of St. Charles, his sisters, Susan (Brian) Cook of St. Charles, and Sara (Tony) Caggiano of Orlando, FL, and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Frank and his daughter, Amie Elizabeth Titus. Steve and Terri have 13 adoring grandchildren who referred to him as “Papa.” These grandkids brought him a great sense of joy; their presence in his life was a source of immense pride. From Matt and Sarah: Izabella, Samuel, Lucie, Evy, Theo and Victoria. From Melissa and Jeff: Chase, Ami, Mae, Wren, and Ty. From Nick and Nicky: Landon and Greyson. Steve and Terri were also considered family to countless others. Papa was a magician with the coin-behind-the ear trick. He’s used the same penny for the last 16 years and the kids are still amazed. He wasn’t too proud to take on The Penguin costume…and was a really sweet Smee but he drew the line at the Pokemon suit the next Halloween. Fishing was a competitive sport amongst all the grandkids at the retention pond across the street. Three-eyed carp were the norm, but were always looking for the four-eyed cahuna. Is there anyone in St. Charles that hasn’t seen the Titus fireworks extravaganza? It started out as a church picnic… In lieu of flowers… Please donate to Mercury One, a non profit that Steve loved supporting.
