BEATRICE MAE MARTIN

Date of Birth

July 17, 1925

Date of Death

December 7, 2023

Beatrice Mae Martin (née Paulson) passed away peacefully on December 7, 2023 in Mount Morris, Illinois at the age of 98.

Beatrice and her twin sister Beverly Ann were born July 17, 1925 in Dorchester, Wisconsin to Ansel and Alice (née Ekdahl) Paulson. The girls had an older brother, Donald, born in 1922.

After graduating from Dorchester High School in 1943, Beatrice earned her nursing license in 1946 through the Marshfield Clinic. After working for hospitals in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Colorado, Beatrice settled in Elburn, Illinois after she married Lawrence Martin on August 24, 1958. After giving birth to a daughter and son, Beatrice resumed working as a nurse until retiring in the 1980s.

In retirement, Bea and Larry enjoyed traveling across the United States and Europe. They loved each other deeply and were blessed with two children and five grandchildren. Known as Granny, Beatrice always made sure her kitchen was stocked with her grandchildren’s favorite treats and took every opportunity to hug them and spoil them. Beatrice was active at the Elburn Congregational Church, participating in exercise classes, crafting groups, and a bridge club. She is remembered as an outgoing and sweet woman who loved spending time with family, friends, and acquaintances.

Beatrice is predeceased by her beloved husband, Lawrence; father, Ansel; mother, Alice; brother, Donald; and twin sister, Beverly. She is survived by daughter Sarah Jane (Ronald) Brown of Wadsworth, Ohio; son Jay Lawrence (Wendy) Martin of Byron, Illinois; granddaughters Caroline Ashley (Matthew) Vernon of Denver, Colorado, and Bailey Beatrice (Charles) Scidmore-Sievers of Dekalb, Illinois; and grandsons Nathaniel Emerson (Ashley) Brown of Fort Wayne, Indiana, First Lieutenant Kirk Patrick (Chloe Bartek) Martin of Fort Riley, Kansas, and Sergeant Donald Paulson Martin of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

A memorial service will take place at Conley Funeral Home on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 10am, followed by a private graveside service for the Martin family.

In lieu of flowers, the Martins ask that donations be made to the Elburn Town & Country Library in memory of Lawrence and Beatrice Martin.
