CAROLYN DIXON

Carolyn Dixon, age 86, of Elburn, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Savior, and was reunited with her husband Howard, Saturday, April 9, 2022.

She was born August 17, 1935, in Chicago, IL, the loving daughter of Carlos and Elizabeth Hansen.

Carolyn grew up for a time with her brother with their great-grandma Mabel Hansen in Michigan before settling in St. Charles, where she graduated from St. Charles High School in 1953.

Friends Don Zahn and Marge Fish introduced a young G.I., Howard Dixon to Carolyn at Railroad Days in West Chicago.   Howard was in no hurry to get married, but this romance was on track to take him to the altar by August 14, 1954. They made their home in Batavia for a time before moving to Palo Alto, CA, where Howard found work.  In 1955, they were blessed with a daughter Diane. A year later they returned to the Midwest and made a home in Geneva. The family became complete with the birth of their son Rick in 1963. 

Carolyn made her life’s work caring for her family, but when the children were older, she took a position at the Kane County Recorder’s Office.

Carolyn was an active member and president of the Geneva Young Mother’s Club for many years.

Carolyn may have knitted at least 50 Afghans and sewed countless outfits for her family. She was fan of all sports and cheered on every team, no matter where and when they played, but had a special affinity for the Cubs, Bulls and Blackhawks. She would rather watch any sport rather than tuning into a soap opera. Any movie musical on television found a fan in Carolyn as she watched in rapt attention to “Fiddler on the Roof” to Singin’ in the Rain and everything in between. She was gifted in the kitchen and perfected the two-day process of making warm German Potato Salad, among other culinary delights, but when it came to the grandchildren, Carolyn pulled out all the stops. They were spoiled with the best snacks; from animal crackers and candy filled Easter eggs, to ice cream sundae cups and cookies, no one came up with better treats than grandma. She sent cards to them for every holiday, making their wrapping an institution within itself, filled with special notes and gifts, and was present at every step, whether it be dance, sports, music or even just the books they loved to read. Carolyn taught them how to belong to a community, supporting friends on every street, to believe in themselves and to live and walk in faith. There was no one better at listening and caring the way Carolyn did, and through that care was born not only a family but a family of friends that will miss her dearly.

She is survived by two children: one daughter, Diane (Philip) Lippert and their family, Sarah  Lippert and Sharon (Evan Stone) Lippert and a son, Richard “Rick” (Lori) Dixon and their family, Samantha (Emiliano) Ponce and Brian (Allison) Dixon; three great-grandchildren: Parker Dixon, Owen Dixon and Kaden Ponce; one brother James Hansen; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a family of friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Dixon; her parents, Carlos and Elizabeth Hansen; one brother John “Jack” Hansen and a sister, Janice Kennedy  

Private family services have already been held.
