CHARLES DAN ROBINSON
Date of BirthJuly 10, 1939 Date of DeathDecember 5, 2023 Charles Dan Robinson, age 84, of Sugar Grove, passed away at his home Tuesday, December 5, 2023. He was born July 10, 1939, in Fannin County, GA, to loving parents, William and Della Robinson. Charles grew up and attended schools in Tennessee. Charles spotted Sherry Franklin as early as first grade, but the two didn’t become an item until after high school in 1960. After a whirlwind courtship, they were united in marriage on September 3, 1961, and made their home in Maryville. A year later they moved to Alcoa for a time, and as their family grew, they found a home up north in Oswego, IL in 1964. They would finally settle in Sugar Grove in 1971. Charles worked for over 40 years for Lyon Metal in Montgomery before his retirement. Charles loved his membership in the Lucky 50 Club where he brought his grandchildren to fish and swim to their hearts content. Charles was a die-hard Cubs fan who also cheered for his Dallas Cowboys. Whenever his beloved University of Tennessee played, he was front and center, rooting them to victory from his couch. He was famous (or infamous) for his onion sandwiches and his banana and mayonnaise sandwiches that coincidentally weren’t passed down to the next generation. Knocking down ten pins in various leagues and searching for the elusive hole-in-one at every tee. Charles shared Sherry’s passion for gardening and would often be up to his elbows during harvest. The love he had for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren eclipsed everything. You could see the sparkle of his eyes whenever he would speak of them, let alone making memories right alongside them. He leaves two sons: Doug (Maureen) Robinson and Patrick “Kelly†(Carrie) Robinson; four grandchildren: Doug (Christina) Robinson, Jon (Amy) Robinson, Alicia (Edward) Webster and Krystal (Steven Morones) Robinson; 8 great-grandchildren: Gavin, Cole, Fitz and Cal Robinson, Logan Weinstock, Ava, Ashton and Levi Morones; many nieces, nephews and a community of friends, including close friends, Tom and Lynn Williamson, as well as Tony and the late Emery Kalman. He is reunited with his beloved Sherry; his parents, William and Della Robinson; six siblings: Bill, Donnie, Fred, Danny, Steve, and Marie who preceded him in death. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at Sugar Grove Cemetery, Monday, December 11, 2023, 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, at www.heart.org.
