EUGENE “Gene” STREID

Eugene C. Streid, age 81, of Naples, FL, formerly of Maple Park, IL, passed away into the arms of his Savior, Thursday, April 27, 2023.

He was born August 31, 1941, in Chicago, IL, to loving parents, Eugene and Helen Streid

Eugene grew up in Keeneyville IL, attended local schools. He graduated from Lake Park High School with the class of 1959. While there he made a name for himself on the wrestling team. 

Gene met the love of his life in the halls of his high school. The friendship that began between classes grew into a lifetime of love when he was united in marriage to Barbara Steinke. They began their new life together in West Chicago until 1980 when they settled in Maple Park. Grief came to call in 1996 when Barbara passed away. Gene stayed in Maple Park until 2009 when he moved full time to his summer home Naples, FL. As the years passed, Gene would move in with his son Bill and his family to make more unforgettable memories. 

Gene was immensely proud being a member of the electrical union, Local 701, and worked for Gibson Electric for over 50 years before he laid down his tools in retirement. 

He was the biggest Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and no one cheered for them louder than Gene. Any time spent on the water was time well spent in Gene’s opinion, and he took advantage at every opportunity, always accompanied by his two best furry friends, Avalanche and Thunder. You couldn’t be on the water without fishing, so there was always a line being cast with the hope that “the big one” would soon be caught. Yearly trips to Canada with family and friends, not to mention his cabin in WI, gave ample opportunities for bragging rights. No matter who caught what, the tales grew taller with every cast. Gene now basks in the eternal light of Heaven, sitting on the dock of the celestial bay just waiting to share a new story when everyone meets again.   

He now leaves his son Bill (Jennifer) Streid; one daughter-in-law, Robbyn Streid; four grandchildren Zakary, Stevi, Lauryn and Camryn; two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Joanne and Judy; several cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as a family of friends stretched between IL and FL. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Helen Streid; his wife Barbara Streid; one daughter Bonnie Streid; one son, Gene Streid and one brother John Streid.
