April 13, 1937 - September 19, 2025

Mary Ann Brummel, 88, of St. Charles, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on September 19, 2025.  Born on April 13, 1937, in Wheaton, IL, Mary Ann was the beloved daughter of Frank and Anna (Gsell) Mittman. She was raised in a faith-filled home, attending St. Michael’s Catholic Grade School and Wheaton High School. On October 27, 1957, she married the love of her life, Edwin Brummel, and together they shared 65 beautiful years of marriage, full of love and adventure before he was called home to the Lord on December 1, 2022. Mary Ann’s life was defined by her deep and abiding faith in God. She lived with an unwavering belief that His grace would guide her through every season, a belief that she passed down to her children and grandchildren, inspiring them to live lives of love, devotion, and faith. Her commitment to her family and faith was a source of strength and comfort to all who knew her. An avid reader, Mary Ann had an insatiable curiosity for books, finding solace and inspiration in their pages. She also took great pride in her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her loved ones. Whether baking her famous holiday sugar cookies and apple slices, sewing, or gathering around the table for a game of pinochle, solitaire, or Skip-Bo, Mary Ann made every moment special. Her family recipes were more than just delicious treats—they were an expression of the deep love and care she poured into everything she did. Mary Ann also worked at Wallace Computer Services, where she made many friends before her retirement. In her later years, she and Ed enjoyed traveling together, exploring the Midwest and Southern states in their fifth-wheel camper, visiting family and friends along the way. Their adventures were not just about the miles traveled, but about the shared faith and connection with loved ones. Mary Ann is survived by her four children, Steven (Debra), Daniel, Diane Brummel (partner Hector Flores), and Karen (Bruce) Garland; her grandchildren, Katie Henschel (Lucas, Lexie, Lauren, Lana), Erin (Daniel) Flaschar (Stanley, Caleb, Jaylen, Hannah), Matthew (Madeline) Brummel, Christopher (Miranda) Brummel (Chloe and Claire), Alexandra (Nicholas) McCracken, Gabrielle Garland, and Juliana Garland; and her siblings, Richard (Gisela) Mittman, Mildred Diehl, and Jerome (Teresa) Mittman. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Richard (Alice) Brummel, sisters-in-law Pat Brummel and Loretta Brummel, her dear friend Gloria Brummel, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her son Ronald Joseph, and her sisters Dolores Kohley and Evelyn Wrin. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E Main St, St. Charles, IL. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in St. Charles. Following the Mass, a Celebration of Life gathering will be held with the location to be announced at the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to organizations that held a special place in Mary Ann’s heart: St. John Neumann https://www.sjnstcharles.org/; AMAC Action https://amacaction.org/; Heritage Foundation https://www.heritage.org/; and Salesian Missions https://salesianmissions.org/. The family extends their deepest thanks to Marlene, TP, and Megan, whose care and compassion provided Mary Ann with comfort and support during her journey. Special thanks to Senior Helping Seniors, Brightstar Care, and Transitions Care for their dedicated service. Mary Ann’s kindness, faith, and unwavering love will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She is now reunited with Ed and her son Ronald in eternal peace with the Lord, where their love continues to shine down on us all.Guest BookShareEmailPrint
