September 23, 1936 - March 15, 2025

Father Dru Green died peacefully at home in the evening of Saturday, March 15, 2025. He was a kind, gentle, holy man, and faithful Episcopal Priest, serving 60 years in the Diocese of Chicago. Dru was the youngest son of Christine and Drury Green of St. Charles, Illinois. His older brother, Douglas, and older sister, Judith Green Pierson, are now deceased. On December 9, 1989, Dru and parishioner/seminarian Linda Leudesdorff were married at Calvary Episcopal Church, Batavia, where Dru served as Rector for 25 years, retiring in 2000. The Reverend Linda Leudesdorff Green is also now retired. Dru attended St. Charles High School where he led the basketball team to championships as a “shooter.”  During that time, he was also class president. Dru and his family were founders and active members of St. Charles Episcopal Church. He served at the Altar as an acolyte until he left to study at Princeton University. He returned home after one year at Princeton, when his father died. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Two years later, Dru left to attend Illinois State College in Jacksonville, Illinois where he began to discern a call to Priesthood. He graduated from Seabury-Western Seminary and was ordained to the Priesthood in the Episcopal Church in 1965. Father Green’s first call was to Holy Comforter, Kenilworth where he served as Curate. He then served Holy Name, Dolton (closed); Calvary, Batavia (1975-2000). Following his retirement in 2000, Father Green spent approximately 10 years as the Transitional Minister for St. Bede’s, Bensenville (closed) and finally, again as Transitional Minister for the LaSalle County Episcopal Ministry. He often travelled to the Episcopal monastery of the Society of St. John the Evangelist, in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he spent quiet, meditative, prayerful time. For Father Green, the Son of God, Jesus, was Friend and constant companion. While serving St. Bede’s, a young member of the congregation who had recently emigrated from Africa, became homeless. Father Green and Linda offered this young woman a place to stay for the weekend. A few years later, Finda, Dru and Linda became a family, through adoption. Finda and Pascal celebrated 10 years of marriage. Finda, Pascal and their four sons, Jonathan Drury, Edward Tarwo, Elon and Caleb, were adored and dearly loved by their “Grandpa Dru.” He was a voracious reader of history, particularly of accounts of the political and military events of the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln was a dear friend! Dru also enjoyed mysteries and spiritual writings. Survivors include his wife The Rev. Linda Green, daughter, and son-in-law Finda Green Davis and Pascal Davis, grandsons, cherished niece Carolyn James (Carl) and nephews Robert (Gail), James (Carla), niece Christine Pierson and nephew David Pierson (Betsy) and adored great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27th from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Yurs Funeral Home of St. Charles, IL, 405 East Main Street (Corner of Rt. 64 and Rt. 25). All are welcome to participate in the Burial Service which will be held on Saturday, March 29th at 11:00 A.M. at St. Charles Episcopal Church, 994 N. 5th Ave. (Rt. 25), St. Charles, IL. with The Right Reverend Paula Clark, Bishop of Chicago and The Reverend Fran Holliday, Transitional Minister, presiding with The Reverend David Weaver, preaching. Contributions in Father Green’s memory may be made to the Society of St. John the Evangelist, 980 Memorial Drive, Cambridge, Mass. 02138 or to Illinois College, 1101 W. College Ave., Jacksonville, Ill. 62650. For more information, please call Yurs Funeral Home of St. Charles, 630.584.0060.Guest BookShareEmailPrint
