ROGER WOLF
Date of BirthDecember 21, 1933 Date of DeathMarch 14, 2023 Roger Wolf, age 89 of Sugar Grove and formerly of Aurora, IL passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Tuesday March 14, 2023. He was born December 21, 1933 to Donald and Genevieve (Honey) Wolf in Aurora, IL, the third of four children. He grew up in Aurora and Sugar Grove townships, splitting time between the family homestead on Jericho Road and various farms in the area while living with his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Cordelia Carpenter. Roger attended school in Sugar Grove and Aurora, graduating from West Aurora High School in 1951. He attended the University of Illinois on an athletic scholarship, where he was a four-year letterman on the Fighting Illini football team. The Illini won the 1952 Rose Bowl Championship, as well as the 1953 Big Ten Co-Championship during his years on the team. He went on to be a lifelong supporter of U of I athletics. On April 25, 1954, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Cynthia Burkland. Together they raised three sons, and enjoyed watching their six grandchildren grow to adulthood and bless them with ten great-grandchildren. They also traveled the world with tour groups sponsored by the University of Illinois Alumni Association. Roger was a builder and housing developer, as well as co-owner, along with Cynthia, of Valley Green Golf Course in North Aurora and later, Wolf Run Golf Course in Montgomery. He was also a member of the Commissioning Committee for the USS Abraham Lincoln, CVN72, which was commissioned on November 11th, 1989 Roger was lifelong maker. He built houses, subdivisions, golf courses, game boards, train sets and solved many problems with duct tape, WD-40, or a perfectly bent nail. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Roy (Ethel) and sister Beverly (Carl) Jacobson, as well as his nephew Dan. He is survived by his wife Cynthia (Burkland) Wolf, sons, Steve (Cindy), Russell (Gayle), and Kenneth (Bobette), 6 grandchildren, Jay (Brandy), Christa, Drew (Krista), Meghan (Justin), Mandi (Jordan) and Kate (Stefan), 10 great-grandchildren, Cullen, Logan, Nora, Ellie, Benjamin, Abigael, Leland, Genevieve, Killian and Magdalena. He is also survived by his brother Rex Wolf, his cousin Walt (Janet) Schroeder, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many. Internment will be private. |
