SHIRLEY SNYDER

SHIRLEY SNYDER

Date of Birth

December 31, 1927

Date of Death

April 3, 2024

Shirley Snyder, age 96, of Maple Park, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 3, 2024, surround by the love and prayers of her family.

She was born December 31, 1927, in West Chicago, IL, to loving parents, Henry and Mayme Theis

Shirley grew up in Batavia and attended local schools. She graduated from Batavia High School with the class of 1946 where she made her voice known in the Glee Club and the Senior Girls Club. Following graduation, she worked at Campana in Batavia, as well as a St. Charles National Bank where she was promoted to a secretary for the vice president.

Love was in the air in the spring of 1947 when she met Morton Snyder. They walked down the aisle hand in hand and heart to heart the following year on February 7, 1948. Shirley and Morton began their new life in West Chicago for a time before moving out to Maple Park where they began farming.

Life on the farm never stopped and neither did Shirley. When her green thumb wasn’t on display in her bountiful garden, she was busy canning the harvest for future enjoyment. Grapevines and apple trees didn’t escape her notice either. She made their house a home by quilting, embroidering, knitting and sewing a roomful of projects that had love in every stitch. Out on the town, Shirley bowled to her hearts content on several leagues over the years and hit the greens for a few rounds of golf. Many trips were taken with her sisters to the casino in Aurora where the sights and sounds of slot machines attracted her sense of chance and adventure. Shirley added Germany and Switzerland to her itinerary of everlasting memories. Nothing called to her heart like family and being surrounded by her children and grandchildren made her the happiest. Every holiday her little house was bursting with people, food, laughter and love.

She now leaves her two children: Bob Snyder and Bill (Sharon) Snyder; two daughters-in-law: Yvonne Snyder and Leanne Snyder; 6 grandchildren: Jenny (Brad) Rusin, Keith (Erica) Snyder, Michael Giese, Laura (Jory) Rood, Anne Marie (Caleb) Davidson, and Olivia Snyder; 6 great-grandchildren: Brooklyn and Brayden Rusin, Sofia Giese, Charlotte, Cooper and Drew Snyder; one sister-in-law, Shirley Berrigan; many nieces, nephews and a family of friends. Shirley is reunited with her husband Morton Snyder, her parents, Henry and Mayme Theis; 6 siblings: James Theis, William Theis, Betty Wesemann, Raymond Theis, Henry Theis and Marie Wiltse; three children: Daniel Snyder, Larry Snyder and Barb Giese, who preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 10-11a.m. with a Mass to begin at 11 a.m., at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Maple Park, on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Maple Park, IL.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association for dementia research, https://act.alz.org. Memories and tributes may be left on the Conley Funeral Home Facebook Page, or at www.conleycare.com where you can read Shirley’s life story.
