Eldon D. "Pete" McConkey Obituary Eldon D. “Pete” McConkey, age 95, of Geneva, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2025 at BlackBerry Pines Assisted Living in Elburn with his loving family by his side.
He was born September 22, 1930, in Weldon, Illinois, the son of Lynn and Ida (Danison) McConkey.
Pete was a co-owner of PMA Chicago Toro Distributorship from 1971 until his retirement in 1995. He won the Mr. Toro Consumer award in 1993 and was the OPEDA president. While Pete’s career was significate, his greatest joy was his family. He created lasting memories through the annual McConkey Door County vacations spanning 80 years, as well as the annual Wallace reunion in Starved Rock for the past 50+ years.
In his retirement years, Pete volunteered as a cook for Hessed House and spent valuable hours serving with Geneva Hospice. He treasured his time with Chapelstreet Wednesday morning Senior Bible Study, as well as the Tuesday morning Dimple Donut gang.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years Barbara (Wallace); son Joe (Mary Beth) of Geneva; grandchildren Marla, Seth, and Leah; four great grandchildren; and many other dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Juli, and seven siblings.
A visitation for Pete will be held Thursday, October 16, 2025 from 12:00 pm until the time of his funeral service at 2:00 pm at Chapelstreet Church, 2300 South Street, Geneva, with Brian Coffey officiating.
Burial will be held Friday, October 17 at 4 pm at Friends Creek Cemetery in Argenta, Illinois with a light meal to follow at the Bridge Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry, Chapelstreet Church, 2300 South Street, Geneva, Illinois 60134 would be appreciated.
