Richard T. "Rick" Tornberg

Richard T. "Rick" Tornberg Obituary Richard T. “Rick” Tornberg, age 79, of Elgin, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2025 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born June 9, 1946, in Geneva, the son of Gust and Dorothy (Granquist) Tornberg. Rick led a fully life and was devoted to his family, friends, and faith.  Rick was lifelong member of Geneva Lutheran Church.  He was on the church council, ushered and played his accordion.  Rick was a a graduate of Geneva High School. While in high school, he was a member of the Geneva basketball team that went all the way to the elite 8 state championship tournament.  Along with his teammates, Rick was enshrined in the Geneva High School Sports Hall of Fame.  After high school, Rick graduated from Carthage College.  Then, served in the United States Army. He had a 38 year Career at Bekins Van Lines. During retirement, Rick was an active member in the Edgewater Community in Elgin.  He was involved many of the community a few actives included tennis, pickle ball, and bocci ball.  Rick had many important roles throughout out his life.  He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all.   He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years Kathy (Brundige); son Carl (Heidi) of Elgin; grandchildren Aaron and Ethan; brother Kenneth of Ohio; brother-in-law David Boardman of Wisconsin; and many other dear relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marie Boardman, and sister-in-law Shirley Tornberg. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025 from 9:00 am until the time of his funeral service at 11:00 am at Geneva Lutheran Church, 301 S. 3rd Street, Geneva with Pastor Trudy Stoffel officiating.  A luncheon at church will follow the funeral service. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Geneva Lutheran Church at 301 S. 3rd Street, Geneva, Illinois 60134 would be appreciated.
